Louis van Gaal's speech started sombrely but ended with the Manchester United manager urging the crowd to applaud a female saxophonist.
Van Gaal's eight-minute oration was, perhaps, fuelled by a bottle of Rioja, which one of his predecessors would have approved of.
And, judging by the reaction of United supporters - and even some opposition fans - the Dutchman's popularity in England has soared.
Yes, Van Gaal's speech included another boast of United's inconsequential possession stats at Chelsea, but he promised United supporters they were 'very close' to the Premier League champions, despite the 15-point chasm.
United might have experienced a trophyless season yet in Van Gaal they have a manager the supporters appear to be proud of. His Old Trafford rallying cry appears to have won over the sceptics, and the odd member of the enemy...
I don't know if anyone is still up. But LVG is cracking me up here. Great entertainment!

Van Gaal's speech was fantastic. Could have only been bettered by him singing Rapper's Delight at the end.

I'd go to war for Louis Van Gaal. The man is class.

Football is meant to be fun. Van Gaal is fun. All the rest is commentary.

We were robbed of a David Moyes end of season speech. Hard to imagine how it'd compare to this...

Wow. He's totally bonkers

Of the two dos, looks like #Mufc's was a better laugh than #lfc's. Better choice of cabaret. Freeform wildman v chilled-out entertainer.

"OK. We've all had a drink. Let's just leave it. Don't ruin a good night" - Van Gaal's wife, every night for as long as she can remember

@DuckerTheTimes refreshing to see a manager being himself rather than the boring, predictive lines they all come out with.

Van Gaal looking like a mob boss toying with some mook: https://t.co/zLBzMU64Sb

So much passion from the boss in his speech at the #mufcpoty awards. Brilliant!
