Manchester United contact to sign defensive midfielder confirmed, now awaiting bid

Lucas Silva is back on the scene. Several British newspapers brought European gossip together and the Daily Express had a piece on Tuesday naming him the 'new Kaka'. In Brazilian football every young player has to be the reincarnation of a great before him but Kaka is perhaps the wrong choice this time, Lucas Silva is more of a defensive midfielder.
It all stems from the player's agent Luiz Rocha yet again doing his best to stoke the fires of interest. Alexandre Mattos, director of sport at the player's current club Cruzeiro, has been at it too an spoken to FC Inter News about possible interest - confirming no bid has been made, and that no Inter contact had been made but also saying that if the Italian club wanted Lucas Silva they would have to pay a "substantial sum".
It's all in the marketing.
Claims of Real Madrid interest have also kicked off again in Spain, as the agent and club get hard to work. Not so long ago Lucas Silva himself said of Real Madrid interest "It was a surprise. Glad with the interest of Real Madrid. After we got the news, I received several messages from friends and family. Did not expect it. I was very happy for the recognition. A sign that the job is being done well."
The player's agent, the same Luiz Rocha who has been speaking this week, around that time also confirmed to the Brazilian press that Manchester United were interested "There aren't many details. I confirm I was contacted by people linked to Manchester United and Inter Milan. There are no official bids. We are waiting."
The Lucas Silva stories pop up at regular-ish intervals and each time there's a new club interested according to the player's agent or club. Manchester United, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea and Inter Milan have all been thrown in the hat at various points. Yet each time there's still no official bid and that appears to be what those involved are fishing for. The usual suspects in European football, Manchester United and Real Madrid, have been used to up the perception of interest, but the player's agents will know that without a bid from someone that just remains rumour mill stuff - heavily encouraged by them.
Cruzeiro and Rocha would dearly love a Manchester United bid, but they're being kept waiting.
