The Telegraph go to print on Friday with some big transfer news regarding Manchester United.
According to the broadsheet, new Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini has identified Robin van Persie as a player he wants to sign at the San Siro.
The underlying message behind the Telegraph’s transfer story is that van Persie, now 31-years-old, is no longer at the top of his game, and Man United have a big decision to make over the future of their Dutch striker.
With van Persie’s contract expiring in 2016, the Telegraph believe the forward may be sold this summer as he begins his final year of his Red Devils deal.
The broadsheet reports:
Any move will have to wait until the end of the season, when, as it stands, Van Persie will only have a year remaining on his United contract.
Van Persie would land a £10 million loyalty bonus by staying at United for the duration of his contract, which could pose a stumbling block to Mancini and Inter.
United could even try to extend Van Persie’s current deal, which is worth £250,000-a-week, but there are concerns over his form and long-term fitness.
United paid £24 million to land Van Persie ahead of Mancini and City, but could not expect to recoup much more than £10 million for him if they decided to cash in.
